IPVanish Gives Dark Mail a Thumbs Up

IPVanish reminds us all this week that the Internet is both a wonderful and a fearful place. We can easily lose ourselves in cyberspace, and because we do it from the comfort of our homes and offices, we often forget that there are real and serious risks involved. VPNs and many other popular Internet security tools exists because people need protection from the many criminals who operate in cyberspace. One of the services that offers security for email users is Dark Mail.

Dark Mail

Dark Mail is so named because it keeps cybercriminals in the dark about what users send and receive through this mail service. Email is a crucial element of our lives today, and so it is often targeted by hackers who want to steal information and launch malware attacks. Dark Mail uses high level end to end encryption to secure its users’ emails. Encryption is the key to securing digital data these days, and IPVanish says people need to switch to Dark Mail if their current email services are not giving them prime data privacy protection. Most popular email services do not because they actually mine user data in exchange for providing email services.

Email can be encrypted without using Dark Mail, but it is not a secure system. Current email systems require that people emailing each other must share encryption keys to be able to read the emails’ contents. Sharing the encryption key with everyone emailed means that the key is not secure and can easily leak to hackers if one user is not careful to use a VPN or other security software. Dark Mail takes care of email encryption so that keys are kept secret, even from Dark Mail itself.

IPVanish gives Dark Mail a thumbs up because of its high levels of privacy and ease of use. Dark Mail is the brainchild of Lavabit’s founder Ladar Levinson and a few other privacy-conscious service providers. Some may remember Levinson as being the one company that stood up to fight NSA demands for data sharing. He closed down the Lavabit service to protect the communications of users such as Edward Snowden from being violated by NSA spies. Levinson announced that Dark Mail is coming within six months, and many users wait with anticipation for its release.
